The child is described as having a developmental delay when a team of qualified professional evaluates a child 3 to 5 years old & decides the child is experiencing a delay in 1 or more of the following areas:
• Physical development
• Cognitive development
• Communication development
• Social or emotional development
• Adaptive development
The term developmental delay may be used as a synonym for the following terms:
• Cognitive disability
• Emotional disturbance
• Speech or language impairment
