Change ... to Instruct:

Modify to educate:

When a change is made in a child’s school, work or environment to meet a child's educational needs then we modify to educate.

Meaning, we change the:

- School building,

- School work, or

- The environment.

See change to discipline -- as a different reason.

A change ... to instruct means a change in educational services/settings to instruct.

A change ... to discipline does not mean a change in place to instruct.

The educational setting of a child with a disability might change the location to a:

-- Home, hospital or institution;

-- Special class or special school;

-- Resource room.

Another change might be a change in instructor (like a visiting instructor).

The visiting instructor may provide instruction, in tandem, with a regular class.

If a child with a disability changes the amount of time spent in a specific place

then the change is NOT necessarily a change to discipline & may be a change to instruct.

If a child with a disability changes from one building to another building

then the change is NOT necessarily a change to discipline & may be a change to instruct.

NOTE THE FOLLOWING APPLICATIONS OF THE ABOVE GENERAL RULES:

If a child with a disability was in a regular classroom part-time & a resource room part-time & moves to a new building where the child is in a regular classroom part-time & a resource room part-time then the change is not a change to discipline.

If a child with a disability is in a regular classroom for 4 classes & a resource room for 2 classes & the schedule is changed to 3 classes in the regular classroom & 3 classes in the resource room then the change of schedule is not a change to discipline.

If a change is not a change to discipline then the change does not need my consent.

Or, saying the same thing another way -- if the change is a change of place to instruct then the change does not need my consent.

Correspondingly, if the change is a change of place to discipline then the change does need my consent.
